Overview

Burwash Landing, with about 90 residents, and nearby Destruction Bay and Silver City, bringing the total to over 150, forming the smallest yet vibrant community in the Yukon. Job Summary

As a Natural Resources Manager at Kluane First Nation, you will be pivotal in overseeing and managing KFN’s natural resources, ensuring their responsible use and protection. You will collaborate with our team to develop and implement sustainable practices that maximize the value of our natural resources while minimizing environmental impact.

Duties

  • Resource Assessment: Conduct surveys and assessments to identify, evaluate, and monitor natural resources on our properties, such as forests, water bodies, and wildlife habitats.
  • Sustainability Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive sustainability plans that promote the long-term health of our natural resources.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all activities related to natural resource management comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations and permits.
  • Budget Management: Manage budgets and allocate resources for natural resource management projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and resources are used efficiently.
  • Citizen Engagement: Collaborate with KFN citizens and external stakeholders, such as government agencies, environmental organizations, and community groups, to foster positive relationships and promote sustainable resource management.
  • Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of resource management programs and make informed decisions based on the results.

Essential Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or degree in Renewable Resources, Resource Management or similar, combined with experience working in renewable resource management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability

  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the KFN Final Agreement, KFN history, culture, and traditions
  • Knowledge of relevant KFN, Yukon, and Federal acts, policies, and legislation.

Job Requirements

  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
  • Willingness to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions
  • Travel within and outside of the Territory
  • This position is hybrid with a minimum of one (1) week per month working in Burwash Landing
