While Burwash Landing is a small community, it boasts one of the highest literacy and post secondary education statistics in the Yukon. Education is a key priority for the people who live here. Kluane Lake School is located 15km from Burwash in the community of Destruction Bay. The school goes from K4 to Grade 8. The School Principal, Rose Blair is also the intermediate grades teacher and Roxienne Prestone is the primary grades teacher. Additional programming offered at the school is Southern Tutchone class which is taught by Sharon Kabanak and Diyet van Lieshout. The normal school year is from September to June.
Kluane First Nation also runs a licensed daycare which offers a the Language Nest program. The Language Nest is primarily taught by Elders in the community who spend the mornings with the children speaking Southern Tutchone. This program is a great success with the children, the staff and the Elders.
Kluane First Nation offers assistance to Citizens who wish to continue their education, whether it be upgrading, certificates, trades or post secondary and graduate degrees.
